Investigators reveal new findings in severed body parts case in Canada
June 7, 2012
Canadian officials have been on the trail of a case involving severed limbs being mailed to various cities across the nation, and as the investigation continues, more details of the gruesome crime are being revealed. The victim of this brutal murder has been identified as Jun Lin, a 33-year-old university student, The Associated Press reports.
Last week, a package containing a severed human foot was mailed to Canada's Conservative party headquarters in Ottawa, and another parcel containing a hand was stopped en route to the Liberal offices. Lin's torso was discovered in a suitcase in a dumpster outside an apartment building in Montreal around the time the first package was found in Ottawa. The dumpster was located outside the apartment building of suspected murderer Luka Rocca Magnotta. Two other body parts, the victim's right hand and foot, have since turned up en route to two elementary schools in Vancouvern according to the AP.
The police investigating the case have also told the press there were notes in some of the packages. Montreal police commander Ian Lafreniere told the BBC News they are not revealed what was written in the notes to dissuade copycats that may be lurking in the shadows.
Police have linked 29-year-old porn actor Luka Rocco Magnotta, Lin's boyfriend at the time, with the murder. He has since been arrested in Berlin, Germany, the AFP reports. The suspect supposedly filmed the killing as well as the dismemberment and then posted the video online. Upon his arrest, the BBC indicates Magnotta did not struggle and has no plans to fight his extradition back to Canada to answer for his crimes. He will reportedly be charged with murder as well as threatening politicians.
