Canada honors influential woman on Ottawa Life Magazine cover
November 4, 2011
Canada is starting out 2012 by honoring 12 of the most influential women in the nation. They will be featured on the cover of the January edition of Ottawa Life Magazine and given a chance to share their views on the future for Canada's North.
"The impact that these women have on Canada's North is crucial to its continued development and success," said Hal Timar, the co-event manager of Northern Lights. "This event reflects the ever-increasingly important role of women to northern prosperity, and the cover of this magazine could have easily involved many more women of influence."
People may want to make calls to Canada with international phone cards to ask their friends about the magazine cover when it reaches newsstands in a few months. They might also want to find out more about the women who were chosen for such an honor.
The women who were chosen range from political powerhouses to artists and musicians. For example Leona Aglukkaq is both the Minister of Health and the Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency. Shellie Watt-Cloutier, a world leader on climate change and human rights, was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and Kenojuak Ashevak is a one of Canada's most famous Innuit artists.
