A few tips for business travel during the holidays
November 18, 2011
Traveling for work during the holidays can be stressful for a number of reasons. You're far from home and your loved ones and airports are crowded with families - which likely means a lot more screaming babies than usual. This year, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will designate separate lanes for families and frequent travelers so you don't have to wait for Mom to help 13 kids get through the security checkpoint.
The safety agency will also be using its expedited screening pilot program, which allows travelers who volunteer information about themselves prior to arriving at certain airports to avoid waiting in long checkpoint screening lines. Currently this will only be taking place at a select number of airports in the U.S., but if it goes well the TSA will likely bring it to other locations as well.
Once you've made it to your destination, feelings of homesickness might settle in, especially because the holidays are traditionally spent with loved ones. Staying in touch with friends and family during the holidays, even if you have to work far from home, is important. A calling card can make it easy to stay in touch without racking up a big long distance phone bill at the hotel.
