International students get a chance to see the Pope
November 22, 2011
Students from DePaul University who are spending a semester in Rome recently got the chance to attend a ceremony at the Vatican. DePaulia Online, the college newspaper, reports that Pope Benedict XVI even personally recognized them during the ceremony.
"They were excited to see such an important person," Cathy Ann Elias, the director of the Rome study abroad program, told the news source. "We hope that all of them will look back at this event and reflect about spirituality and all the goodness they themselves can bring to the world through their everyday actions in life."
Sharing in the experience allowed all of the students, regardless of their personal religious beliefs, to bond with one another, according to the news publication. The unique experience is not likely one any of them will soon forget.
Even if they don't get the chance to see the Pope deliver a speech, other students who choose to study abroad will be afforded a wealth of unforgettable experiences. They can use international phone cards to call their loved ones back home and share stories while they are living in other countries.
